Wexham Mowers was first established in 1947 by Mr Rutter in the back garden of his semi detached cottage on Wexham Street. It soon rapidly expanded into the neighbouring garden (the original cottage industry). The company then was predominantly repair and servicing of garden machinery. Mr Rutter passed the company on to his son John, who further expanded the business until he retired in 2000 at which point he handed the reins to another local family to carry the company forward.
With the addition of a small sales area for new machinery, the birth of a website and new investment, sales rapidly grew and it soon became apparent that larger premises would be needed.
In 2006 the owner of Pinewood Nurseries, another well respected and established company a few hundred metres further south on Wexham Street from the original site, approached the owners offering some available space in a newly built barn. It was an ideal opportunity offering more space to create a bigger showroom, with larger workshop facilities and off street parking, which had always been a problem in the past at the original premises.
It took a lot of work from both parties, planning permission and the relocation of the approach road before Wexham Mower Services was finally able to relocate. The interior of the building was converted into a workable area to create a good size showroom and workshop. In July 2007 the company was relocated and officially re- opened by Brian Conley in September with a huge firework display.
At the new premises we became dealers for Countax, Hayter, Echo, Toro, Lawnflite, Webb, Atco and the new owners continued to carry the company forward with the original philosophy but with a modern view.
In early 2013, ownership and the reins of the company were taken over by the current owners, an existing employee and his family. We have lived in the village of Stoke Poges for over 20 years and look forward to carrying the business forward with the same enthusiasm as Mr Rutter (the original owner) and his original vision.
